Steve "Hondo" Dominguez of Austin, formerly of Hondo, age 60, passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2018. Born July 26, 1957, in San Antonio, to Juan and Balbina Orosco, he was the adopted son of Lucio S. and Oralia Ortiz Dominguez. Steve graduated from Hondo High School in 1977. He had several jobs in Hondo, including working at Hondo Lumber Co. and Radio Station KRME. He began his career as a public servant with the Hondo Police Dept., later moving to the Austin Police Dept on Feb. 3, 1984. After 29 years of service, he retired on April 22, 2015. Soon after retiring from APD, he continued his public service as an officer for the Austin Community College. Steve enjoyed his family, going to the movies, reading, and watching his grandchildren. He enjoyed dancing, especially to mariachi music. He had an infectious laugh and a smile that lit up the room. Family was always first and it was always known that wherever his wife was, he was not far behind. He is preceded in death by all his parents; brother, Ruben Orosco; and son-in-law, Benjamin Hickman. He is survived by his wife, Odilia "Lillie" Gonzales Dominguez; daughter, Sadie Hickman of Austin; son, Garrett Steven (Lindsey) Dominguez of New Braunfels; grandchildren, Brian Matthew Dillon Jr. and Jessalyn Alexis Hickman and Callie Grace Dominguez; siblings, Rosalinda Chavez, Enrique Orosco, Mary (Danny) Espinosa, Belen Randall, Shauna Montoya, Johnny Orosco, Daniel (Marisa) Orosco, Esteban "Stevie" Orosco and Lisa Orosco Duran, all of Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m., with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Saturday at 10 a.m., St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
