Sulema Ibarra Martinez, age 80, of San Antonio passed away Monday, Aug. 2, 2010. She was born July 14, 1930, in D'Hanis, the daughter of Liborio and Ascencion (Tovar) Ibarra. Married for 61 years, Sulema was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a cafeteria worker at Jefferson High School from where she retired. She was a member of the Altar Society at St. Gabriel's, CCD teacher, Eucharistic Minister, Guadalupana, Cursillista and volunteered for the University Health System many years. In the 1970s, Sulema drove the school bus for the children of St. John Bosco School. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Olivia Santillano, Elvira Ibarra and Maria Cortez. Survivors are her husband of 61 years, Anselmo Martinez; daughters, Sister Betty Ann Martinez, FMA, of New Jersey and Theresa Adame and husband Rafael of San Antonio; sons, Ricardo Martinez and wife Elizabeth "Liz" and John Martin "Jonny" Martinez, all of San Antonio; grandchildren, Crystal Caballero and husband Ted, Rafael Jr. and Mario Adame, Anselmo Martinez, and John Michael Martinez; great- grandchildren, Theodore Jerell "TJ" Caballero, Ricky and Isabella Martinez; and brothers, Santiago "Jimmy" Ibarra and Alfredo "Freddy" Ibarra, both of Michigan. Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 5, 5 to 8 p.m., at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in San Antonio with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Friday, Aug. 6, 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis. Interment will be at San Francisco Cemetery, D'Hanis.
