With great sadness, the family of Sylvia Joyce (Garcia) Skindzier announce her passing on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at the age of 66 at her home in Hondo, Texas. Born Nov. 2, 1945, in Corpus Christi, she was the daughter of Ray V. and Eva Peña Garcia, who preceded her in death, and the sister of Ray A. Garcia and wife Cindy of Corpus Christi. Sylvia will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 33 years, John A. Skindzier. A devoted and loving mother, she is survived by her four children, Janice Berger and husband Tom of Bandera, Letty Garnett and husband Wes of Canyon Lake; Danny Garza of San Antonio; and Eva Parkerson and husband David of Katy; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. John and Sylvia made Hondo their home in February 1995. Over the years, she touched the lives of many in the community with her bright smile and great sense of humor. In 2009 she retired from Lackland AFB where she worked as a Civil Service employee. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Sylvia's life on Saturday, Nov. 19, 11:00 a.m., at First United Methodist Church, Hondo. Services will conclude at the church. The family suggests memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Hondo.
