Sylvia "Sue" E. (Petersen) Muennink, age 77, died on Nov. 13, 2007. She was born March 20, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur and Lillie (Gold) Petersen. She graduated in 1947 from St. John's Lutheran High School in Winfield, Kansas. She attended the University of Texas in Austin from 1947 to 1949 and graduated in 1951 from Texas Lutheran College with a major in Education. Sue was a member of the Beta Alpha Sigma sorority. In 1953, Sue met and married the love of her life, Thomas George Muennink of Hondo. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on Sept. 5, 2004. They lived on their farm in Hondo since 1973, where they, along with a host of family and friends, enjoyed many happy celebrations on their beautiful property. Sue's involvement in organizations such as the Retired Teachers Association, Hondo Garden Club, and church activities has endeared Sue to the local community. Sue taught home economics in Kerrville, Del Rio, and San Antonio and in lower grades in Hondo. She is remembered and loved by her students as a kind, patient and engaging teacher. Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; parents, Arthur and Lillie Peter-sen; parents-in-law, Henry and Dora Muennink; brother, Arthur R. Petersen, ret. Col. USMC; brother and sister-in-law, General Jerome and Diane O'Malley; and brother-in-law, John Henry Muennink. Sue is survived by her sister Virginia Petersen Terril and husband Emmet; and her brother, Daniel J. Petersen and wife Paulette , along with nieces and nephews, Newton Petersen, Weston and Natalie Petersen, Debora Warner, Dianne Warner, and Pamela Warner and George Gen-nardo, Robert Petersen, Barbara Petersen Wilson, Elizabeth Petersen Nelson, Ed Petersen, Kathy Petersen and great-nephews, Joey Krupin-ski and Nathan Gennardo and great-niece, Emily Gennardo. She is also survived by Margie Muennink, widow of her late brother-in-law John, their children, Greg and Sandy Muennink and Melissa and Gordy Bohmfalk, and their grandchildren, John and Rachel Muennink and Sarah, Meredith and Luke Bohmfalk. She is also survived by the children of her late sister-in-law, Diane: Peggy and Richard Neal, Sharon and Roger Burg, Jim and Jenna O'Malley, John and Melissa O'Malley, and their grandchildren, Cheryl Leal, Richard O'Malley Neal, Diana Neal, Peter Ciano, Emily Ciano, Elizabeth Burg, Eleanor Burg, Megan O'Malley, Casey O'Malley, Kyndall O'Malley, Rylee O'Malley, Blake O'Malley, Cameron O'Malley; and Sue's devoted friend, Kathy Morrill. The Rosary will be recited Friday, Nov. 16, at 9:45 a.m., followed by Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis with Father Wallis J. Stiles officiating. Interment will be on Monday, Nov. 19, at 1:15 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, with Father Vincent Fecher officiating.
