Theodore "Ted" Herrera of San Antonio went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020.

Born May 11, 1949, in Hondo, he was the son of Oscar Sr. and Rosa Amalia Saathoff Herrera.

A graduate of Hondo High School, he served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force. After retiring, Ted worked at Action Pawn for 20 years where he established relationships with customers who would seek him out because he would go out of his way to help them, even pray for them. He had a passion for writing poems and songs, loved to dance, and enjoyed selling at the flea market.

He had an infectious smile and a friendly, joyous personality that drew people to him.

Ted was married to the love of his life, Diane, for 50 years, having celebrated their Golden Anniversary on June 6. He was a loving husband, wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather and gave to his family unconditionally.

He is preceded in death by his mother and his sisters, Patricia Sue Herrera and Doris Jean Perez.

He is survived by his wife, Diana Villarreal Herrera; daughter, Patricia (Brett) Blankenship; son, Theodore Herrera Jr.; grandchildren, Christopher Michael (Caitlyn)Blankenship and Priscilla Danielle Quesada; great-grandchildren, Sawyer Elizabeth Blankenship, Elias Joel Quesada, Athena Rose Moss and Elliot Theodore Burns; brothers, Oscar (Belia) Herrera, Jr. and Stanley (Ruth)Herrera; sisters, Rose Ann(Sig) Cantu and Debbie (Galo) Garcia, all of San Antonio; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Guinn-Horger Chapel at 10 am, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. Face coverings and social distancing are required.
