Thomas George Muennink, Age 75 years, 11 months, and 23 days, of Hondo, Texas, died on Saturday, October 23, 2004. He was born in D'Hanis, Texas on October 30, 1928, the son of Henry Louis & Dorothy Marie (Zinsmeyer) Muennink. Tom was a descendent of the first German and Alsatian immigrants in Texas. Tom graduated from Hondo High School with the class of 1947. A veteran of the Korean War he served with the 2nd Division of the US Army, earning two Bronze Stars and the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. He then served as an Army Reservist until 1957. For forty-four years Tom worked in San Antonio for Cage Brothers, W.A. Kelly Construction and Quick and Evans Construction Company building the roads of San Antonio as a Construction Foreman. In 1953, Tom met and married the love of his life, Sue Petersen of Fredericksburg. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on September 5, 2004. Tom and Sue have lived at their farm in Hondo, Texas since 1973. They, along with a host of family and friends, have enjoyed many happy celebrations on their beautiful property. Tom's involvement in organizations such as the Moose Brothers has endeared him to the local community. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Dora Muennink, sister and brother-in-law Diane and General Jerome F. O'Malley, and brother John Henry Muennink. Tom is survived by his loving wife Sue Muennink of Hondo; Margie Muennink, also of Hondo and the widow of his late brother John, and their children, Greg Muennink, of Hondo, Melissa Muennink Bohmfalk, of Austin. He is also survived by the children of his late sister, Diane: Peggy O'Malley Neal of San Antonio; Sharon O'Malley Burg, of Vienna, Virginia; Jim F. O'Malley of San Antonio and John Thomas O'Malley of Houston. He is also survived by his devoted friend, Kathy Morrill of San Angelo. The Rosary will be held Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at 7:30 pm at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am, Thursday, October 28, 2004 with Father Stiles officiating, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Pall Bearers include Jim O'Malley, John O'Malley, Rick Neal, Bill Bendele, Ray Wolf, John Koval and Emil Zinsmeyer. Honorary Pall Bearers include Jerome Zinsmeyer, Kenneth Lutz, Glenn Singleton and Charlie Kast. Interment will follow at 1:45 pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
