Veda Evelyn Blasingame Finger, age 85, passed away, April 19, 2005, after a five month battle with cancer. She was born in El Paso, AR, on July 13, 1919, the daughter of David Alex & Ethel Mamie (Pierce) Blasingame. Veda came to Hondo in 1946. She met and married Arthur Jerome Finger. Veda and Jerome owned and operated Finger's Liquor Store for 30 years and Finger's Fashions for 25 years. After many years of hard work, she retired in 1995 and for her remaining years enjoyed spending cherished time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arthur Jerome Finger; son Arthur Jerome "Jay" Finger, Jr.; sister Cordie Mae Thompson, Thelma Pauline Denman, brother Bill Blasingame. She is survived by her daughter Shelley Ann Tilley and husband Terry of D'Hanis; sister Mattie Marie "Pat" Bennett of Sherwood, AR; grandchildren Kami Tilley Dale and husband Eric, Kristi Tilley Frosch and husband Kevin, Keri Tilley Dodson and husband Will, Marc David Finger, Jacob Jerome Finger; seven great grandchildren. The Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 22 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. The pallbearers were Larry Winkler, Frank Winkler, John Melton, Rober t Fohn, Steve Hackebeil, Jon Bader. Entombment will follow at the Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Mausoleum.
