Obituary

Verlie Fay Nietenhoefer of Hondo, 84, passed away Friday, Apr. 20, 2018. Verlie was born on Jan. 6, 1934, in Oldenburg TX, to Johanna Wubbenhorst and Thaddeus Rudolph Keilers. She graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1951 and married Henry Christian Nietenhoefer on Jan. 15, 1955, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Warrenton TX. They became parents to two boys, Stuart and Alan. Her early hobbies included playing volleyball, softball, teaching Sunday school classes, and dancing (which later became square dancing). Later in life she enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and playing cards and dominoes with family and friends. Verlie's work experience started at G.P.M. in San Antonio, after that she worked for Gary Aerospace in Hondo. On Dec. 21, 1965, Verlie started working for Hondo ISD as the school tax collector/assessor and worked for 39 years before retiring July 1, 2004. She attained the designation of Registered Professional Assessor (RPA) and Certified School Tax Administrator (CTS) during her work tenure. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Hondo, where she was heavily involved. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thaddeus R. and Johanna Wubbenhorst Keilers who were of Oldenburg; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lillian and Raymond Zingelmann, who had lived in LaGrange, and Irene and Delroy Zingelmann, who had lived in Giddings; in-laws, Alice (Nietenhoefer) and Milton Leinweber , Elein (Nietenhoefer) and Stanley Saathoff, and Marvin Nietenhoefer, all former residents of Hondo; and Ethel Nietenhoefer, who had lived in Fredericksburg. Survivors include her husband, Henry C. Nietenhoefer of Hondo; sons, Stuart (Melissa Boehme) Nietenhoefer of Hondo and Alan (Chelesa Couch) Nietenhoefer of Perkins OK; grandchildren, Johanna (Trenton) Hall of Humble, Amanda (Hayden Holmes) Nietenhoefer of Uvalde, and Austin Nietenhoefer and Kellen Nietenhoefer, both of Perkins OK; and great-granddaughters, Rielynn Hall and Berkley Hall. Visitation will be Tuesday, Apr. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be Wednesday, Apr. 25, 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. Bearers are Austin Nietenhoefer, Kellan Nietenhoefer, Carles Zingelmann, Randy Zingelmann, Clayton Saathoff, Jonathan Meinen and Michael Leinweber. Honorary bearers are Nancy Pietsch, Carol Ann Burcalow, Sherian Tofel and Debbie Andries. The family suggests memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund.
