Vernon Neal "Buster" Geuea, 93, passed away Wednesday, Apr. 18, 2018, in Hondo. The son of Charles Fritz and Ellie Carrie Elms Geuea, he was born in Hondo Feb. 14, 1925. Growing up in Tarpley, Buster became an avid outsdoorsman. For a time, he went hunting every opening season for deer, duck, dove, pheasant, etc. One of his proudest stories told of hunting in Colorado around 1958 when he killed a big elk and helped kill a bear and two deer. In 1970 he traveled to Alaska on a hunting and fishing trip. He was also proud of having served in the U. S. Navy in the Pacific during WWII. Vernon and Mary Edith Chipman wed on July 4, 1950, and spent much of their married life in California. Their son, Vernon Ray, was born in 1952. Buster enjoyed meeting his family in Las Vegas for some fun times. In his later years, his son would drive him to Santa Anita Race Track on Sunday so he could bet on the horses, outings they both enjoyed. Buster was preceded in death by his parents and his wife; stepson, George Knox; brothers, George, Chester and Edgar Charles Geuea; and sisters, Nora Anderson, Alice Mumme, Florence Leinweber and Helen DeLong. Survivors include his sister, Joe Nell Leinweber of San Antonio; son, Vernon Ray Geuea of Lake Havasu City AZ; stepdaughter, Sharon (Edward) Lawrence of Anaheim CA; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m., Monday, Apr. 23, at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Interment will follow at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. Pallbearers are Kirk Feichtinger, Ken Belcher, Johnny Brieden, James Geuea, Johnny Simmang and John Wedgeworth. Honorary bearers are Tommy Wedgeworth and Charlie Anderson.
