Virginia (Virg) Santillano Sherry, 68,of Devine, TX passed away with her husband and daughter by her side on Sunday, July 19, 2020, after a short battle with cancer.

Virginia was born in Hondo, Texas on January 11, 1952 to Macario and Petra Santillano.

Virginia worked at USAA for 10 years before meeting and marrying her husband, Ronald D. Sherry, and later moving to Baytown, Texas. There they had their daughter, Brandy, in 1982.

Virginia returned to college at the University of Houston, graduated in 1994 and became a teacher. She retired from the Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District after 20 years of teaching. She loved and enjoyed working with her Crockett Elementary and Lamar Elementary co-teachers.

Virginia is survived by her husband of 38 years, Ronald (Ron) Sherry; daughter, Brandy Sherry, and son-in-law, Sean Buchanan of Richmond Hill, Georgia, and three of the most important little people of her life, her grandchildren: Layla, Ryder and Grayson Buchanan.

She is also survived by her sisters and brothers, Santos Santillano, Gumecindo Santillano (Elida), Pedro Santillano (Josephine), Narcisa S. Ruiz (John), Susie S. Carroll; mother-in-law, Beth Schott; brother-in-law, Buster Sherry (Jannette); five nieces and nephews and 12 great-nieces and nephews.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, Macario and Petra Santillano; father-in-law, H. Dow Sherry; step-father-in-law, Claude E. Schott; brother-in-law, James Carroll; sister-in-law, Sharon Sherry; and two nephews, Ronnie Ruiz and Jonathan Francek.

Services will be private. Rosary will be Thursday at Guinn-Horger Chapel and Funeral Mass will be Friday, July 24, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo with interment at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

The family suggests that anyone wishing to honor her memory give a book to an elementary school library in her name.
