Vivian Clair Bohlen, age 72 of Hondo, passed away peacefully at home on November 24th, 2018 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Vivian was born January 6, 1946 in Castroville to Leo Paul and Margaret Mary Iltis Echtle. She graduated valedictorian from Medina Valley High School in 1964. She married Cordell Bohlen on October 22, 1966 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in LaCoste. She worked at LaCoste Bank for several years and later held a position as bookkeeper at Medina County Abstract Company in Hondo until retiring in 1994. She also taught religion at St. John's Catholic Church in Hondo for several years. Vivian was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. After retirement, she devoted most of her time to gardening all kinds of vegetables, plants and flowers. She also enjoyed reading, crafting, spending time and playing games with her grandchildren to whom she was lovingly known as Bebe. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Donald Echtle; sister, Katherine "Kathy" VanDamme; brother, William "Billy" Echtle and his wife, Mary. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Cordell Bohlen of Hondo; daughters, Janet Schultz and Karen Bohlen, both of Hondo; grandchildren, Everett and Evan (Cassidy) Hackebeil, Sidney, Grant, and Anna Schultz; great-grandchildren, Trevor and Ryder Hackebeil; brothers, Thomas Echtle of LaCoste, Kenneth Echtle of LaCoste, and David Echtle (Blanca) of Hondo; sister, Maureen Ahr (Lindy) of Castroville; brothers-in-law, Julian VanDamme of D'Hanis and Glenn Bohlen of Hondo; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 29th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home in Hondo with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 30th at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hondo. Interment will follow at Hondo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Donations to pancan.org for pancreatic cancer research would be appreciated.
