William Paul "Bud" Guinn, Sr., age 82, of Hondo, TX, passed away Sept. 19, 2008 in Hondo. Bud was born Mar. 29, 1926 in Young County, TX. He was the youngest child of the late James Knox and Eva Robertson Guinn. He graduated from Graham High School in 1944. He grew up on a farm in Graham and worked in a defense plant in Fort Worth during WWII. On weekends he hitchhiked home and on one of those weekends he got a ride with a funeral director from Graham who offered him a job. With the funeral director's encouragement Bud decided to attend mortuary school. He graduated in the top 2% of his class from Landig College of Mortuary Science in Houston. He completed his apprenticeship and became a licensed funeral director in 1947. Bud worked at funeral homes in Houston, San Marcos and Devine before he bought the Horger Funeral Home in Hondo in 1966. In 1970 he and his wife purchased the Tondre Funeral Home in Castroville. In 1997 he was named funeral director of the year for the South Central Texas Funeral Directors Association. In January 2003 he was awarded the Cornerstone Award from the Hondo Area Chamber of Commerce. He was so proud that his whole family was involved in the funeral service. His two son's and their wives, his granddaughter and her husband all decided to follow in his footsteps. He was very dedicated to his profession and never minded being on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week. He was a big fan of high school football. His favorite teams were the Hondo Owls, D'Hanis Cowboys and the Medina Valley Panthers (but only when they weren't playing Hondo). He also enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys.
