Walter Charles Kempf of San Antonio passed away Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015. He was 68. Born July 3, 1947, in Hondo, he was the son of Alvin Louis and Elva Martin Kempf. He earned a Bachelor's degree from St. Mary's University and retired after 25 years as a San Antonio police officer. He is very much missed by his four-legged best friend and constant companion, Sadie. His parents and his stepfather, Gerhardt Weynand, preceded him in death. Walter is survived by five sons, Michael Joseph (Linda) Kempf, David Vincent (Diana) Kempf, John Edward (LeAnn) Kempf, all of San Antonio, Winthrop "Buddy" (Tracy) Kempf of Flower Mound and Jeffrey M. (Olga) Kempf of Dallas; former spouse and best friend, Grace Kempf of San Antonio; 10 grandchildren, Jacklyn, Julie, Joshua, Courtney, Owen, Connor, Noah, John, Aidan and Tristan; sister, Denese L. "Dee" (Art) Santos of Yancey; brothers, Leo F. (Beverly) Kempf of San Antonio and Douglas A. (Sharon) Kempf of LaPort; and nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 4, at Guinn-Horger Chapel, followed by interment at Yancey Cemetery.
