Obituary

Wilbur Lindeburg of Hondo passed away on Jan.10, 2022, at the age of 84. He was the son of Ernest Arnold and Elsie Folk Lindeburg who preceded him in death.

Wilbur attended Sul Ross State College and earned a degree in Agriculture Science with a minor in Botany.  During his time there he met and married his wife Gladys. They came home for him to farm and for her to teach school.

Wilbur farmed his entire life until his health forced him to retire in 2016.  As a farmer he received many awards. He was elected Outstanding Young Farmer in 1966 and again in 1972.  Both years, he was runner-up in the Area VII Star Young Farmer competition.  In 1984 he was awarded Outstanding Conservation Farmer-Rancher in the Medina Valley Soil and Water Conservation District. In 2006 he received the Outstanding Agriculture Family award given by the Hondo Area Chamber of Commerce.

As an individual he was involved in many ways. He served the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) as a community committeeman. He was elected to the County Committee and served 12 years there, five years as committee chairman.

He was a member of Quihi Bethlehem Lutheran Church, served eight years on the Church Council, two times as treasurer, and also served on multiple committees.  He has been a member of Farm Bureau his entire farming life.  He was a member of the Lindeburg School Association, as well as the Sons of Hermann since 1952.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Cowell Lindeburg; daughter, Deborah Lindeburg-Waltz (Greg) of Austin; grandchildren, Ian Waltz of Rapid City, S.D.; Sydney Waltz of Austin; brother, Lloyd Lindeburg (Annise) of Corpus Christi; and sister, Shirley Seewald of Hondo.

Funeral service was held  Sunday, Jan. 16, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery,  Oakwood Section.
