Obituary

William Louis "Bill" Laughinghouse passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the age of 90.

He was born in Hondo on October 24, 1933, the son of Otis Earl and Hattie Stiegler Laughinghouse.

Bill graduated from Hondo High School in May, 1951.  He served in the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1953-1955, including serving in Korea.  He worked for several companies during his business career, including Medina Feed & Supply, the U.S. Post Office, Mumme's Feed & Supply, Mason & Hanger, Gary Aircraft Corporation and Universal Rundle.

Bill was an active member of the American Legion, St. John's Catholic Church and V.F.W. Post 3891.  He loved to help with the annual St. John's picnic at the Hondo City Park.  He regularly took part in Memorial Day and Veterans' Day cermonies and he and Mary often hosted many V.F.W. members at their home in D'Hanis.

After retiring, Bill enjoyed ranching in D'Hanis. He also loved to garden and make hot sauce and pickles to share with family and friends.  Bill was well known for his funny sayings and frequent jokes, and memories of him will always include lots of laughs.

Bill's greatest love was for his family.  He attended many a sporting event for his children and grandchildren.  He was their cheerleader, referee and umpire.  Being "Papa" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be Bill's greatest legacy.  He taught them how to love their families and they never left without him saying "Papa Loves You"!

Bill is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Lois Langfeld Laughinghouse; his children, Theresa Sweeney and husband, Craig, Bubba Laughinghouse and wife, Stephanie, Laurie Tondre and husband, Chuck, and Mary Mangold and husband, David; his grandchildren, Oliver Sweeney, Chris Laughinghouse and wife, Allison, Megan Favor and husband, Wesley, Cody Tondre and wife, Jennifer, Jordan Tondre, Trevor Mangold and wife, Kortni and Jillian Petty and husband, Quinn; his great-grandchildren, Millie and Miles Laughinghouse, Emily and Whitt Favor, Riley, Cooper and Landry Tondre, and Rae, Warner and Gwyn Mangold.  He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Ellen Ayers, Joan Langfeld and Carmen Polhemus and husband, Paul and numerous neices and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mogie Boon, his brother-in-law, John Boon, his sister-in-law, Ann Sigler and his brothers-in-law, Tony Langfeld and Joe Langfeld.

Bill's funeral service was held on November 24th at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis, with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
