Obituary

William C. Meyers of Hondo was born in Hagerstown, MD, Nov.15, 1928. He passed away April 27, 2012, in San Antonio at the age of 83. He was raised on the family farm at the edge of Hagerstown where he attended Antietam Street School and Hagerstown High School, Class of 1946. He continued his education at the University of Maryland. After a short time with Meyers' Implement Company, he joined the United States Air Force and received his flight training in Hondo. There he met the former Imogene N. Wiemers and they were married on Aug. 2, 1952, at New Fountain United Methodist Church. After completion of flight training and his military service, they moved to Louisiana where he flew crop dusters until a previous employer asked him to return to Greencastle, PA. This allowed the couple to be closer to his home in Maryland where they lived on the family farm. After a short time, Bill took a position as manager of Maryland Cooperative Milk Producers association. He then joined Economics Laboratories, Klenzade Division, in June of 1966 in Eldersburg, MD and moved to Winchester, VA in July as a territory manager. He continued his career as district manager of New England in September 1972 and relocated to Nashua, NH in August 1973. In February 1985 he took the position of Sanitation Management Specialist and moved to Colleyville, TX. In October 1988 he became the corporate Manager of Training for Economics Laboratories and, after 30 years, he retired with his wife to Hondo in 1999 and continued in a consulting role until 2002. He is survived by his wife, Imogene; son, Jay and his wife Kim of Winchester, VA, their four children, Scott, Leslie, Kathryn, Rebekah, their spouses and seven grandchildren; son, Michael and his wife Cindy of Wendell, NC, their sons, Kristopher and Joey; son, Jeffrey and his wife Susie of Kingsland, GA, their four children, Tommy, Matthew, Helen and Benjamin, and two grandchildren. Survivors also include his sisters, Dorothy Hughes of Olney, MD, and Ruth Keller of Chambersburg, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Calvin and Iva Mae Meyers; sisters, Elsie Miller and Mildred Stouffer; and brother, J. Keith Meyers. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Apr. 30, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, at New Fountain United Methodist Church, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. The pallbearers were Benjamin Meyers, Scott Meyers, Leslie Stover, Rebekah Saunders, Joey Crisafulli, Kris Crisafulli.
