William Reus
August 16, 1938 – May 31, 2026
William Reus, 87, of Hondo, Texas, passed peacefully on May 31, 2026, and went home to his Lord and Savior.
Born on August 16, 1938, in Hondo, William lived a life grounded in faith, family, and farming. A lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, he faithfully served in many capacities throughout the years, including Sunday School teacher and superintendent, Luther League sponsor, church council member, and choir member.
After graduating from Hondo High School in 1957 and attending Texas Lutheran College, William dedicated his life to farming. Together with his wife of 64 years, Margaret, he established a successful farming operation and grain business, working alongside his sons, Nelson and Mark. He was a respected leader in the agricultural community and served through numerous organizations, including the Texas Farm Bureau, Young Farmers of Texas, Medina Valley Soil and Water Conservation District, and the Medina County Junior Livestock Show.
William loved God, his family, and the land he stewarded. He found joy in nature, bird watching, and the simple blessings of life. William leaves behind a legacy of faith, hard work, stewardship, and love for others.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Herman H. Reus and Olga Wunderlich Reus; his sister, Ruth Reus Rowlett; and his beloved son, Mark Reus.
William is survived by his wife of 64 years Margaret Dornbusch Reus. His sister Esther Reus Baker (Weldon); and his three sons, Brian Reus (Zelda), Philip Reus (Dana), Nelson Reus (Sarah) and daughter-in-law Tammy Maxwell Reus. William also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild and many extended family members and friends whose lives were enriched by his love and friendship.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo on Sunday, June 7, at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow.
