Willis Allen Boone, age 79, of Hondo passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012. Born Nov. 26, 1932, in Leedy, OK, he was the son of Charlie and Elsie Irie (Wright) Boone. A U.S. Navy, Korean War veteran, he was a retired educator and rancher. Willis was active in the community as a member of Hondo City Lodge #756, American Legion Hal Jones Post #128, and Hondo Garden Club. He was also a Past Master of Loma Alto Lodge #544 in Tilden and Past Worthy Patron of Eastern Star Chapter #404, Hondo. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Paige G. Boone. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Thompson Boone; daughter, Susan Shahan and husband Craig of Kerrville; son, Clay and wife Christen of Spring Branch; four grandchildren, Zane, Lacy, Lindsey and Atlee; brother, Coy Dale Boone and wife Sandra of San Antonio; and sisters, Darlene Wiemers of Yancey, Deanie Ruston of Dallas and Wanda Boone of Oklahoma. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. A Masonic graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, May 24, at Holy Cross Cemetery, D'Hanis.
