Wilma Louise "Billie" Sparger of Comfort, formerly of the Hondo/D'Hanis area, age 93, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Born in Washington IN, April 23, 1925, she was the daughter of J. Clinton Dougherty and L. Ruth Feagans Dougherty. Billie served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Specialist (V) 2nd Class. She was avid hunter and fisherwoman, was an astute businesswoman, and still actively bred Texas Longhorn cattle. A very proud grandmother, she rejoiced in their accomplishments and looked forward to participating in the big events of their lives. Billie was an active member of Gaddis United Methodist Church in Comfort. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alan Raiford Sparger Jr. in 2007; and sister, Judith R. Dougherty. Survivors include her daughters, Marilyn Moczygemba of San Antonio and Susan Lumpkin of Austin; son, Alan R. Sparger III of Comfort; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Private graveside service and interment will be Friday, April 27, at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. The family suggests memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
