Obituary

Zena Ruth Lang Smith, born in Llano, TX, on October 31, 1919, died in Hondo, TX, January 6, 2008, at the age of 88. Her younger years were spent with her family in the Mason, Fredericksburg, and Austin areas and finally settled with her family in South San Antonio. Ruth is also survived by grandchildren, Audrey Smith, Raymond Smith (Francesca), Sara Luensmann, and Clinton (Shellie) Smith, all of Castroville; and by Chris Butcher and Daniel Butcher (Brittany) of San Antonio and Marie Mashburn (Loyd) of Post, TX. Ruth and Charles moved to their farm in east Bexar County in1946 where Ruth supported Charles in all of the subsequent farming, dairying, and custom harvesting activities. She was a wonderful mother providing every opportunity possible to her children, while caring for their invalid son. In the lean years of the drought, Ruth worked at the Medical Center in Seguin. She was very active in their community and church, leading many women's activities and children's Christian Education. Her flowers and vegetable garden were also very special to her. After retiring from the dairy business, Ruth and Charles moved to the family ranch in Medina County (D'Hanis) where they fully enjoyed their cattle and the ranch and sharing it with family and friends. The children in Ruth's family were truly her great joys, from her own children and their friends to her nieces and nephews, her grandchildren, and her great-grandbabies. She was a truly blessed believer in God and a true blessing to all those around her. We'll miss her!
