Zonyha Maribeth
Herbort
December 22, 1935 – March 24, 2025
Zonyha Maribeth Herbort of Hondo, age 89, passed away Monday, March 24, 2025.
Born Dec. 22, 1935, at the family home in Gillespie County, she was the daughter of Reuben Herbort and Mildred Weirich Herbort.
As a child, Zonyha was raised by her grandparents, Richard and Olga Weirich in Beeville, TX. During her senior year of high school she moved to Yorktown, TX, where she met Ray Meyer. She and Ray married on July 3, 1955, after graduating from high school.
Business opportunities took the young family to Corpus Christi in the late 50's, where Zonyha worked for many years in the mortgage industry. After a work hiatus in the 70's, she returned to work in the 80's for a variety of manufacturing companies that took her to Houston, Los Angeles, and Chicago until her retirement to San Antonio in 1998.
She was an avid reader of history all her life, most specifically World War II history. She regularly engaged her kids to haul off cases and cases of books because they were too heavy to move every time she changed addresses. This issue was thankfully resolved with the invention of the Amazon Kindle.
Zonyha was preceded in death by her father and stepmother, Reuben and Lola Herbort, and her mother and stepfather, Mildred and Robert Patterson.
She is survived by her sons, Mark Meyer (Silvia) of Miami, Florida and Russell Meyer (Diane) of Hondo; grandchildren, Eric Meyer and Sarah Hardt (Steven); great-grandchildren, Annie and Hunter Hardt.; brothers, Dudley Herbort, Kenneth Herbort (Peggy) and Richard Patterson (Jill); and sisters, Taunyha Jacobs (Wayne) and Vicki Oliver (Stacy).
At her request, a private service is planned.
The family would like to suggest that memorial donations be made to the Hondo Public Library (2001 Ave. K), City of Hondo Animal Care Services (1030 Ave. Y), or the American Cancer Society .
